Which KPIs matter

Net profit, recurring share of revenue, MRR per client, growth and client churn tell you most of what you need about the health of a managed services business. Only some have published benchmarks, and we show which.

Where these benchmarks come from

Most MSP survey data is vendor-published. We use it, label the publisher type and owner, and never present it as neutral.

How percentiles are calculated

recurringShare = annualRecurringRevenue / annualRevenue
mrrPerClient   = annualRecurringRevenue / 12 / activeClients
growth         = annualRevenue / revenueLastYear - 1
logoChurn      = clientsLost12m / (activeClients + clientsLost12m)
rpe            = annualRevenue / fte
percentile = sum(share of bands below yours) / sum(share of all positioned bands)

The survey reports bands, not individual answers. Your percentile sentence says how many surveyed MSPs reported a lower band than yours, after excluding "not sure" answers. Net margin is rounded to a whole percent before banding. The survey has no 21-24% net-profit band; a value there is shown as sitting between the 16-20% and 25-30% bands.

Limitations

  • Self-reported bands from a survey of one vendor's audience, mostly North America.
  • Respondent definitions of net profit differ; use the same definition the survey asks for.
  • Metrics without a neutral public benchmark are shown without a comparison on purpose.

FAQ

What is a good net margin for an MSP?

It depends on your size and mix, so the checker shows where your margin falls in a published survey distribution rather than a single target. The distribution comes from a Kaseya 2026 vendor survey and is self-reported. Service Leadership, owned by ConnectWise, separately reports a best-in-class line for adjusted EBITDA.

What is the average MRR per client?

The Kaseya 2026 survey reports MRR per client as bands rather than an average, and the largest band is the lowest one. The checker places your own figure in those bands and tells you the share of surveyed MSPs in lower bands.

Is revenue per employee a useful MSP metric?

It can be a trend line for your own business, but no neutral public benchmark exists for it, so the checker shows your value and no target. Widely quoted ranges are consultant rules of thumb, not survey data.
