How MSPCoach sources, verifies and updates data

The value of this site is the sourcing. This page explains how figures get onto it, how we treat vendor data, how the tools calculate, and how to tell us when we are wrong.

1. What we publish

Sourced benchmarks (research), free tools, a self-assessment and guides. We do not publish vendor rankings or sponsored content.

2. Sources we use and how we rank them

From strongest to weakest: the primary survey report or PDF, the publisher's own release, a verbatim syndicated copy, then a trade-press summary. We never cite a statistic we have not opened. On the research page, "Verified at source" means we read the figure on the publisher's own page or PDF. "Verified via syndicated copy" means the publisher blocked automated access and we read a verbatim copy; for those we link the canonical page and check it in a browser before publishing. Figures we have only seen in search snippets are not published.

3. Vendor data disclosure

Most MSP industry data is published by software vendors. We use it, label it, and never present it as neutral. Publishers we cite, and who owns them:

4. How our tools calculate

Each tool page shows its formulas verbatim and lists its limitations:

Where a tool applies our own judgement, for example the valuation adjustments, it is labelled as an editorial adjustment and not as market data. Nothing you type into a tool is stored by us.

5. Assessment methodology

The readiness assessment has 22 questions across five dimensions, weighted 25% service delivery, 25% sales and marketing, 20% financial management, 15% team and leadership and 15% security and compliance. Each dimension and the overall score are on a 0-100 scale, with bands at 90 and above (mastery), 75 (proficiency), 60 (development) and below 60 (foundation). Your answers are not stored on our servers. If we later build an anonymised benchmark from assessment data, it will be opt-in and announced here first.

6. Independence

No vendor sponsorships, no affiliate links, no paid directory listings and no referral fees.

7. Update policy

Every article shows when it was last updated. Statistics are re-verified at least every six months, and year-stamped articles are refreshed annually. The research page shows a page-level last-verified date (2026-10-11) and a verification date on each card.

8. Corrections

Email hello@mspcoach.com with the page, the claim and a source. Corrections are logged here with the date.

  • An existing article said an MSP with $500K in MRR could sell for $1-3M. $500K of monthly recurring revenue is $6M of annual revenue, so the sentence was wrong by an order of magnitude. It is being rewritten to use annual recurring revenue and to link to sourced valuation multiples instead of quoting a figure.

  • An existing article said top-performing MSPs reach 25-30% EBITDA. That conflicts with the best-in-class line published by Service Leadership (a ConnectWise company), so the claim is being replaced with the sourced figure and the published survey distribution of net profit.

9. Team

MSPCoach is written and maintained by a small research team. We don't publish named authors because the site's value is the sourcing, not personal authority; every claim is checkable.
